Prior to circa 1800 this area was considered to be the southern limit of Sherwood Forest. A professional guide to lead travellers safely through the forest to Mansfield could be hired from the now demolished 'Guide House', which stood on the eastern side of Mansfield Road to the north of Roscoe Avenue. The rear and south gable looking NW from the yard. Left is pedestrian access from Mansfield Road (A60/614), seen also in NCCG000173. The materials seen in the foreground are used by the Building contractors developing a new residential estate east of the Guide House. The Trees in the background skirt the east side of the main Mansfield Road. The east wing can be seen in NCCG000170 & NCCG000172, and the building on the right edge in NCCG000174. See also NCCG000175. This photo was taken by kind permission of the proprietor of the vehicle-repair depot in one of the outbuildings.
