England
Prior to circa 1800 this area was considered to be the southern limit of Sherwood Forest. A professional guide to lead travellers safely through the forest to Mansfield could be hired from the now demolished 'Guide House', which stood on the eastern side of Mansfield Road to the north of Roscoe Avenue. Looking SE from Mansfield Road (A60/A614). Left is the entrance to the rear (see NCCG000170 & NCCG000171) and the stables and outbuildings (see NCCG000174). Housing development is in progress rearwards and the Guide House yard is being used for the storage of building materials. One of the outbuildings is being used as a vehicle-repair depot (see NCCG000174). See also NCCG000173 & NCCG000175).
