Prior to circa 1800 this area was considered to be the southern limit of Sherwood Forest. A professional guide to lead travellers safely through the forest to Mansfield could be hired from the now demolished 'Guide House', which stood on the eastern side of Mansfield Road to the north of Roscoe Avenue. Stables and Hayloft, looking NE from the entrance to the rear (see NCCG000172). Left of the wooden shed is another outbuilding of considerable size, used as a vehicle-repair depot. In the building nearest the camera are sacks of fertiliser etc, belonging to the Farmer/Owner of the Guide House. Housing development is taking place rearwards, as can be seen by the edges of the photograph. See also NCCG000170, NCCG000171, NCCG000173 & NCCG000175. Car in shot believed to be a MGB GT.
