The Boningtonwas a cinema and variety theatre that originated as the St Albans Picturdrome in 1912. The building was extensively altered and rebuilt in 1929 with a new classical frontage and it then assumed the Boningtonname. The last film to be shown at the theatre was on 30 March 1957 and it was finally demolished in April 1963 with shops being built on the site. Picture the Past website contributor Peter Turner comments: 'Looking at the photo and the date I would most likely have been in the procession for I was then 12 years of age and attended Front Street Baptist Sunday School, which was subsequently demolished and replaced by a supermarket (originally the Nottingham Co-op and later Boyes).'
