Looking north towards St Mary's Church from the junction of Church Lane with Church Road and Calverton Road. Some of the old cottages that adjoined the church can be seen to have been demolished (eventually all would succumb) and construction of new dwellings is underway, the contractor being Arthur Clower Ltd. In the right background is the present day vicarage, its much grander Victorian predecessor, which stood among the trees in front, having been another victim of progress.
