Featured in literature as Willingham in Sir Walter Scott's novel 'The Heart of Midlothian', this picture shows the south (garden) front of Staunton Hall, with the tower of the Parish Church of St Mary behind. An inscription at the hall records building work in progress in 1554, whilst another date of 1573 appears on the porch.
