Newark Road from St Giles' Church, Ollerton, c 1920 ?

Market Place
Ollerton
England

An elevated view looking north-west from the tower of St Giles' Church (the stone parapet occupies the foreground). Newark Road heads off into the distance, bridging the River Maun where the highway bends to the left, before intersecting with Mansfield Road/Ollerton Road and Blyth Road. The building on the left is Ollerton Mill, which remained in commercial operation producing flour until 1984. In the 1930s Newark Road was supplanted by a half-mile bypass further to the west (Rufford Road), thus enabling the growing amount of vehicular traffic to avoid the twists and turns through Ollerton village. By 2009 only buses were allowed to use Newark Road as a through route.
