The original Albert Hall was built in the late 19th century and was the City's largest concert hall, and a major venue for political rallies. It was acquired by the Wesleyan Methodists in the early 1900s for use as central mission, but was unfortunately destroyed by fire in 1906. A new Albert Hall Methodist Mission was built in 1909 by a prominent local methodist A. E. Lambert, in the style of an Edwardian Theatre or Music Hall. It continued to function as a methodist mission until 1984, and in 1987 it was taken over by Nottingham City Council. Its current function (in 2013) is as a Commercial Conference and Entertainment Venue.
