Newdigate House on Castle Gate is a late 17th century elegant house once occupied by Marshal Tallard who commanded the French Army defeated by Marlborough at Blenheim in 1704. He was captured and sent on parole to Nottingham where from 1705 to 1711 he lived in Newdigate House. He returned to France in 1711. Newdigate house was named after the family that owned it. It is now in use as offices.
