View of part of the south side of Stockwell Gate as it was in 1892. From the left are: G Richardson, Tin & Coppperplate worker; William Hough, Shopkeeper; Woodcock's Yard with milestone at the junction showing Alfreton as 9 miles away; Tudor House; Crown Stables which was up the yard - and was known locally as 'Jack up the Stairs'; Crown Court. The name 'Stockwell Gate' was in use by 1315.
