Mansfield to Southwell Railway, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, 1871

Mansfield
England

Perhaps Mansfield's greatest structure of the 19th century is the RAILWAY VIADUCT, which dominates the central area-its high arches stride right across the roof tops in the Mansfield-Erewash Valley Line, which was constructed in 1847, although the town had rail links earlier, the line to Pinxton having opened in 1819. The viaduct is still in use and carries a good deal of mineral trains which wend their way from local collieries to Trentside power stations and elsewhere. This picture was taken around 1875, and shows the remaining buildings of the old White Hart Yard, before White Hart Street was developed.
