Looking east showing the stone arched bridge that carried the Midland Railway branch from Mansfield to Southwell over Kirklington Road. This line was opened in 1871 and closed in 1966, although latterly the section through Rainworth only extended eastwards to Blidworth Colliery, the remainder to Southwell having been taken out of use the previous year. Passenger services over the route had ceased in 1929.
