Looking south through the stone arched bridge that carried the ex-Midland Railway branch from Mansfield to Southwell over Nottingham Road. A height restriction sign indicates the available headroom is 19 feet. This line was opened in 1871 and closed in 1983, although latterly the section through Rainworth only extended as far as Rufford Colliery, the remainder to Southwell having been taken out of use in 1965-66. Passenger services over the route had ceased in 1929.
