Dismantling of a girder bridge on the ex-Great Central Railway operated Mansfield Railway, following the line's closure in 1967. A road crane owned by Scotts Cranes appears to have lifted out the bridge deck, an operation that has led to some damage to the right-hand abutment. The original of this photograph is identified as showing the demolition of a bridge carrying the ex-Midland Railway Mansfield-Southwell line over Sheepbridge Lane, Mansfield. However, this line did not cross Sheepbridge Lane so this cannot be correct. Both the Midland's Nottingham-Mansfield route and the Mansfield Railway did cross Sheepbridge Lane but this bridge does not match either of these structures. The most likely contender is in fact one that took the Mansfield Railway over an unnamed track that connected Nottingham Road with Quarry Lane and ran to the north of and parallel to Stanley Road. Immediately after the bridge the road passed through a large quarry and the detail discernible in the background here appear to correspond to this. Can anyone confirm this identification?

This is the demolition of the former Mansfield Railway / Great Central / LNER bridge that crossed Hermitage Lane, close to where Screwfix is today. In the background can be seen the concrete feeder/silo belonging Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) that used to operate from a site alongside the river. Berisford Jones.
