Records exist, compiled by the 'Nuisance Inspector', which tell of a steaming kettle erected, on the 6th June 1859, above the causeway on brackets, by Mr Henry P Forrest. He had an engineering business on Market Street, and inconvenienced passers-by with his novelty when it dripped water on them!. It was finally removed in 1959 and relocated to new premises on Gateford Road by a 3rd generation Forrest. After this The company was sold to a one time trainee of theirs, Mr James Hodgkinson, who is shown with the outsize zinc kettle here. Hodgkinson again relocated the company to Claylands Industrial Estate, Worksop, and they specialised as engineers to the coal mining industry. See NCCN000515 for the location of Forrest's shop.
