East Markham
England
The van carried the legend Markham on the side. Mr Parkin used to pick up coal from the East Markham siding and then deliver it. He also went to Retford on Saturdays and Mondays and Worksop on Wednesdays with such things as fruit, vegetables, butter and eggs. There was a seat along each side of the cart which was full of people on Saturdays going to market. The van had to be helped up the hill with an extra horse when fully laden. Mr Parkin was tenant of a small holding (Kirke White Estate) and call his family were born there.
