Retford
England
The view shows the south end of Retford Station. Note the semaphore-signal arms' peeping above the carriage on the extreme left. These are located on the ex-GCR line near Thrumpton. As the arms' point to the right, they will control 'down' (westbound) traffic, and also allow access into Retford Station and onto the northbound ex-GNR line. Shows the view southwards from the 'island' platform (i.e. there are lines along both edges of the platform). The elegant, lattice-girder signal-post at the end of the platform is an interesting surprise; this one looks old, and may be of ex-Great Northern Railway vintage? (i.e. pre-dating 1923). Note that the station sign-board is provided with illumination by a gaslamp - a feature better observed in NCCN001594, dated the same day.
