This hotel was originally called the Bull Hotel and it changed its name on the 8th October 1893(?). It served as a stage coach stopping and changeover point, along with The Old Ship Inn and The Lion Hotel. The hotel was closed by Whitbread's Brewery in 1976, and this picture shows it still available to let.
