Stones through a long chain of conveyances on the ownership of John Ellis in 1846 and trading as a beerhouse, then the inn stood on its present site and was run as a sideline by Mr. Ellis who lived nearby in 1 Castle Terrace and whose main occupation was a lime stone merchant at Lady Lee.
