Gringley on the Hill
England
An Archaeological site of an Romano-British settlement. This part of the country formed a portion of the settlements of the Iron Age-Coritani Tribe who, in time, merged with Roman culture. It has been suggested that as the sites of several Roman stations in the adjacent counties may be distinctly seen from this place, it has, possibly, been used as an exploratory camp. About a mile beyond Gringley are the traces of an encampment to the right of the road leading to Leverton; which road has every appearance of having been Roman, and was continued to North Leverton onward to the Roman station at Littleborough.
