Train from overhaul and repaint at Doncaster. GNR 60114. W P Allen 15864. View from the island platform showing a southbound 'A1' class travelling 'light engine' (i.e. without any vehicles to haul). A1s' were express passenger engines. Engines' with immaculate, glossy paintwork were sometimes described as in 'ex-works' condition, meaning they had very recently been 'outshopped' from the works following an overhaul, not having had time to become begrimed. This one would have carried British Railways Brunswick-green livery. Locally, the railway works at Doncaster were known as Doncaster Plant. This engine was condemned Christmas 1964.
