Bothamsall
England
Bothamsall Castle is an earthwork motte, with a strong rampart encompassing the summit. This rampart is more powerful where the ground is level but the position of the bailey has been lost. The remains of a ditch surrounds the base of the motte and the dense cover of trees, makes it best viewed in winter. Medieval, thought to possibly be of adulterine origin. The motte is in quite poor condition having been quarried away in places. The mound is about 150yds in circumference, with a parapet at the top, 70yds in circumference. The motte is 4.8m high.
