Briefly pausing at no. 1 platform, a 'B1' class, mixed- traffic engine is shunting a load of coal. The waggons were of sixteen ton capacity, and this type were officially known as a mineral waggon. Steam working here was much reduced (ceasing at least west of Retford) with the closure of Retford shed two months after the date of the photograph. The engine, no. 61058, survived this event, and in October 1965 was working from Immingham (Lincs.) shed. Note the water column at the end of the platform.
