The Homestead, East Bridgford, 1975

Kneeton Road
East Bridgford
England

This house - or perhaps one on the same site - is said to have been the home of the sister of the Civil War commander Colonel Francis Hacker, who was executed in 1660. Hacker was the third son of Francis Hacker of East Bridgford and Colston Bassett and was a vehement supporter of the Parliamentary cause, even though most of the Hacker family were Royalists. He was also one of the regicides of Charles I in 1649, supervising the King's execution and signing the order to the executioner, acts which ultimately led to his own beheading once the monarchy was restored. He had married Isabella Brunts of East Bridgford in 1632.
