The former Free School at the junction of the Green and Asher Lane, seen from the north west. On the left of the school is the ex headteacher's house. The stone inlaid in the chimney stack is engraved, 'Free School. Originally founded and endowed by James Peacock AD 1841. Rebuilt in AD 1875 in memory of Charles and Ellen Paget, who died in 1873.' The school closed in 1975 and was up for sale at the time this picture was taken. A conservation order protects the building from alterations and demolition.
