Nottingham Road looking towards the Roach, Stapleford

Nottingham Road
Stapleford
England

Looking north east towards Nottingham, showing The Chequers Pub (centre) and the Wesleyan Chapel on the left. The main crossroads in Stapleford at the junction of Nottingham Road, Derby Road, Toton Lane and Church Street is called The Roach. The name originated from the time when French prisoners from the Napoleonic Wars were set the task of hewing rock to create roads and this was referred to as the 'La Roche'. The large building behind the trees on the right was a farmhouse (now the location of the police station) and this can be seen in detail in NCCS001685.
