St Mary's Church originally dates to the Norman Period, though only the north wall of the nave and two windows and a doorway remain of this period. The clerestorey was added in the 15th century, as were the embattlement decorations. The photograph shows Miss Dales and her mother standing outside the church. The railings in the churchyard surround the tomb of John Bley, and were removed in 1940 for the war. John Bley, was a wealthy local benefactor, who built the local school for poor boys and girls of the Parish in 1724, and endowed it with
