St Giles' Church -Flooding

Church Drive
West Bridgford
England

The interior of the church is flooded in this picture. There was a medieval church on the site, part of which was incorporated into the rebuilt church (rebuilt by 1898). The foundation stone for a new nave and chancel was laid by Lady Byron on 28 October 1896. After this date in 1904 the upper part of the tower was restored and in March 1911 plans were drawn up by Naylor and Sale to build a north aisle with a chapel at its east end, to extend the 1898 chancel eastwards and to build new vestries. An effigy of a cross-legged knight (the 'Stone Man') in the chapel at the east end of the north aisle is supposed to be Sir Robert de Luttrell.
