Sir Thomas Parkyn (1662-1741), Baronet, Scholar, Commissioner of the Peace and athlete (who also wrote a book on wrestling!), endowed the school in 1700 datestone towards the top of the gable). The slate stone with an inscription stands below the Parkyn Family arms, surmounted by an owl (to denote wisdom).
