The National school was erected at the expense of Earl Howe with a residence adjacent for the headmaster. It was in use until 1879 when a new and larger school was opened on Kingston Road. Both were then administered by the new Gotham School Board. At the end of it's use as a School it was used for various social functions, from 1885. The stone above the door reads 'National School 1829'.
