This was originally a flour mill, erected in the early part of the 19th century. It was operated by steam raised in a boiler house that stood to the right of it, which was demolished around 1920. The bricks from that and the chimney were then used to build 96, Nottingham Road and the boundary wall seen on the left edge of this photo. The mill was then used for several years as a soap factory, until the mid 1930's. Mr Machin then took it over in 1939 for the manufacture of woollen garments, and used it for this purpose until the late 1940's, after which he used it as a wool store, having moved into new premises.
