This view shows stained-glass windows at the top of the first flight of stairs between the ground and first floors. The window is in the north front of the building. The diagonal strips of plain glass in each panel are inscribed with painted lettering, as follows: (top left) Who high amoung the boughs in early spring his airy city builds. (bottom left) As in the sun the circling covey bask their varied plumes and watchful every way through the rough stubble turn the secret eye. (top right) These in successive twin with lavish hand shower every beauty every fragrance shower. (bottom right) With sharpened appetite sly Reynard preys upon the feathered tribe. The house was built in 1873 for Walter Tindsley, a lace manufacturer, and sold to Nottinghamshire County Council Education Department by a Mrs Ward, the last owner, in 1930. From then until 1976 it was used as a school, with boarding facilities, for with special needs. After this it was left vacant for a time.
