Nottingham, Sneinton
England
The person 5th from the left is Walter Row(e), 7th from left is Ada Row (daughter of Walter) and 8th from the left is John Wood (husband of Ada). Sneinton's name derives from the pre-norman inhabitants of the Nottingham area; the 'Snotes or Snots' (locals take great delight in the latter option!), and it suggests that Sneinton was the more inhabited part of the present city; 'Snot's ton' or town, as opposed to (s)nottingham which was only a hamlet. By 1850 the population of Sneinton had swelled to 8,500.
