In the early 1950's, the cottage on the left was inhabited by Miss Hardwick. The next building was the Church of England junior school, taught by Mrs Stubbs from Stainsby and Headmistress Mrs Barnes from Heath. Attached to the school on the left is a house occupied by the caretaker Haydon Hardwick and his wife. Next, in a partly red-brick cottage, lived the Kilvingtons. Opposite, in the gateway just visible, lived the retired Chatsworth Estate Head Gamekeeper, Mr and Mrs Peat.
