Clifford and Robinson were a Wells and Boring Company who worked around the East Midlands from 1928 till 1943; this image shows the first gravel being extracted by Trent Gravels Ltd in 1929 at Attenborough. Thousands of tons of gravel has been extracted from what is now part of Attenborough Nature Reserve.Full scale test drilling at Attenborough in 1929 gave the field the nickname 'bore hole field' for a time. With a dozen or so bores being worked over a few months, Trent Gravels Ltd was founded, now RMC Aggregates, to extract the gravel, which is still in progress. Information kindly provided by Joseph Robinson's daughter who has written the outlne of the company called 'Mssrs Clifford & Robinson', now in stock at Beeston Library.
