Devonshire Road
West Bridgford
England

Midland Railway bridge over Devonshire Road; view east from near junction with Selby Road with Melton Road (A606), in the background. The bottleneck the bridge causes can clearly be seen and as the road is a commuter road, especially in peal hours, many requests for its demolition have been made even at the time of the photograph. However, the bridge is still standing to this day (2009). The railway bridge carried the fast line to London via Melton Mowbray, which opened in 1879. The line joined the London via Leicester line at Oakley junction, just north of Bedford and closed in 1967.On the left is a plate-layers hut. This is within the boundary fence of the railway and it is not accessible from the road. Steps cut into the railway embankment provide access to it for the plate-layers.
