This school opened in 1839 as a mixed 'National School.' Although a School Board was formed around 1875, it continued in much the same role as a mixed school until 1894. It then became a Girls' and Infants School, taking boys to the age of seven. Boys above seven transferred to the Boy's School housed in the Wesley Room behind the Methodist Church. Both schools functioned until the end of 1962 when they were closed and replaced by John Blow Primary School. Picture the Past is grateful to website contributor Adrian F Sunman for supplying the above information.
