The last of the houses to be occupied, pictured c. 1885. Standing outside the cave dwelling cut into the soft red sandstone is the occupier, Mr John Bramwell. The row of rock houses were all in use in the 1860's - the homes of men who made Besoms birch twig brooms. (Additional information kindly supplied by Pamela Kitchen - Mr Bramwell's great great granddaughter).
