Rosemary Street School was the town's first (all age) elementary school, admitting its first pupils on 1 May 1899. It was officially opened in 1900 by Lord Belper, (then Chairman of the Nottinghamshire Education Committee). Before closing in July 1977, it served as an annexe for Cumberland School. It later became the STAG (Skills Training and Guidance) Youth Training Workshop but was later used for general college work by the West Nottinghamshire College.
