This Grade II listed memorial granite drinking fountain is dedicated to a Zachariah Green and three other members of the family. It is shown here in its original position on the Market Place before it was moved to Titchfield Park, probably in 1922 when the park was opened. Zachariah Green was born May 5th 1817 in a cottage on the High Street, opposite the Chequers Inn, and died January 22nd 1897. He was buried in the Churchyard at St Mary Magdalene. The inscription on it says that he was 'a native of this town and gifted with the art of healing and spent his life alleviating the suffering of his fellow men'. The fountain was erected out of public subscription, in 1898.
