Edwinstowe Village, taken from the forest

Edwinstowe Village
Edwinstowe
England

The village of Edwinstowe is named after King Edwin of Northumbria, who was killed at the Battle of Hatfield in AD 633, just a mile and a half to the west of the village. His body was buried in a forest clearing and St. Mary's Church was later built around it. The King's body was later re-interred at Whitby Abbey. Edwinstowe is also famous as the setting for the marriage of Robin Hood and Maid Marian, who were supposedly wed in St Mary's Church.
