A Tudor house which had Georgian alterations, mainly in the windows. It was possibly the early home of Richard Sterne (c. 1506-1683), English divine, archbishop of York, who was born at Mansfield and was educated at the Grammar School, later to become the Archbishop of York. Later occupants were the Burden Family, manufacturers of cotton and thread, and H S Shacklock, one of the founders of Mansfield Brewery, and a warden at St John's Church lived there from the 1870's. The Gardens at the rear, the stables, brewhouse and paddocks extended across the River Maun to Scotland Close in Lister Lane. It was demolished c 1903 to make way for the Electricity Works and the Refuse Destructor
