Showing the Master's Cottages attached to the Old Free Grammar School off Church Side, visible in the background. The school was built in 1567, six years after the letter patent of Elizabeth I authorising a Free Grammar School in mansfield. The school was rebuilt, and the Master's Cottages were added, during the reign of Queen Anne. It continued to be a school until 1879.
