The Market Place looking south-east with the Denmans Head public house and hotel on the left and High Street and Victoria Street entering in the middle distance. The Denmans Headwas originally the Kings Head but was renamed after Thomas, Lord Denman (1779-1854). Denman was a lawyer, judge and politician who served as Lord Chief Justice of England from 1832 to 1850. Apart from the pub all the buildings shown in this view have been demolished.
