Showing the Market Tavern. The original pub stood on the corner of the Market Place and Market Street. This property was first recorded as a tavern in 1864 when Josiah Towers expanded his grocery business to sell beer. The pub was first known as the Corner Pin, but had changed its name to the Market Hotel by 1891. In 1903 the building was demolished, and it was demolished again in 1905 when the local council wished to use the area for market development. The council gave the brewery
