The Penny Emma at Sutton Town Station

Sutton in Ashfield
England

Mr Reg Ayres, booking clerk at Sutton Junction Railway Station, is shown third from the left. The train was so called because the engine's name was Emma and the fare for riding between Sutton Junction and Sutton was a penny. It was well loved by the locals, probably because it was the first major connection with a wider world and also the short trip was often used as a treat.
