Penn Street - Outram Street
Sutton in Ashfield
England
This is a view taken from Penn Street. The Great Northern station at Sutton was in the town centre, but construction of the railway disrupted a long-established street layout. Although the line itself was in a cutting, an overbridge carrying the entrance building meant that Outram Street (subsequently known locally as Northern Bridge) had to be raised. Penn Street, from where this view was taken, also had to be modified, as indicated by the steps and railings alongside the earlier terraced houses. By this time, the surprisingly elegant GN facilities were very derelict.
