A class 'WD', a 2-8-0 heavy-freight locomotive, shown here at the head of a freight train. These engines were also known as the 'Austerity' class. Mass produced during World War 2 for use overseas, they were designed to require the minimum of maintenance, and to tolerate harsh treatment.
