Langford House

near Devonshire Square
Sutton in Ashfield
England

This yeoman type Tudor house stood on Devonshire Square, almost facing the newspaper offices of the Notts. Free Press, and was probably built by Thomas Langford, a farmer, about 1520. Situated in the centre of what was then the Top Green, the Pinfold was adjacent. Langford street nearby was named after this family who owned land in the area. At one period the house was also occupied by the Brandreth family who were also substantial farmers in the parish during the 17th and 18th centuries. It was demolished in 1928.
