The former house that was on this site was Charles Thompson's House. Charles Thompson, was an 18th century benefactor to the town. It was later occupied by Mr C W Wheat who was a chimney sweep. It was then demolished and the Wakefield Building Society and two shops next to it built in its place. See NCCW001956 for a picture of the former building.
